Gypsy Traveller Diversity Training

We are a well established Diversity Training provider who is happy to boast that the majority of its work is via recommendation. We are passionate about Diversity issues and able to deliver training with regards to all the “strands” of Diversity. We are however, especially well equipped to deliver training related to the Gypsy Traveller Communities. The director of this company is a woman from that Community and she has spent a number of years travelling with her extended family prior to living a settled lifestyle and entering into the education system. This, extensive knowledge could provide your organisation, via our Training Packages with a first hand in-depth knowledge of a Community that is often considered as “hard to reach” Ann Emslie Consultancy offers “an authentic voice” with regards to Gypsy Traveller issues.

Ann’s academic attainments includes a Diploma in Social Work. A diploma in higher Education. BA Hons in Social Sciences and an MA Certificate in Training design and Training delivery. Ann’s employment is in a professional capacity and has included Social Care, Youth Justice, and as a qualified Probation Officer. Both her academic and work related skills enable her to have a good grasp of organisational issues and requirements when delivering Diversity training to staff and management alike. Ann is also employed as an Associate lecturer with the University of Derby. Of interest is a ground breaking new initiative which she has developed entitled, Training the Trainers.  This accredited programme which she wrote and teaches on, involves members from the Gypsy Traveller Community coming into the University to study, the aim being self advocacy and via this, social inclusion.

Whilst emphasising a unique cultural knowledge, my associates and I also acknowledge that whilst testimony has its place in the training room, personal testimony best illuminates ongoing social issues when entwined with research and relevant legislation.  Therefore our sophisticated, “Taylor made Training packages” are underpinned by both. Moreover, we will enable participants in the Training sessions to address there identified areas of concern when working with Gypsy, Traveller, Roma and Show-people, by creating a “safe environment”  thus enabling them to ask questions and raise practice issues which are important regarding the delivery of services. This in turn, will create informed members of staff who are more confident and better equipped to deliver services in line with statutory requirements.

As a consultancy, we have been afforded the opportunity over the past years to address conferences with regard to Diversity issues at both a regional and national level. Moreover we have accepted invitations from both the Police Diversity unit and the Northern Network College to attend Diversity conferences in Budapest and Poland. This added a global perspective to our already extensive knowledge regarding the plight of “sister” Communities.

We are currently fortunate to be working with a number of other voluntary sector organisations who are considered trail blazers in there field. They include Derby Gypsy Liaison Group. Friends Families and Travellers, plus the Irish Traveller Movement. Our involvement with these organisations is either relating to, Training  the Trainers, as a part of a Domestic Violence Forum or in a consultancy role.
